who we are
cmd+shift theatre was born out of the desire to explore and challenge the role of the audience within theatre. Combining today’s technology with an active theatre experience, we aim to create work that draws audiences into the narrative. An experience that requires not only your attention, but your body, brain and voice.
We’re exploring, playing, discovering and we’d love for you to join us.

A guided audio tour with a difference.
cmd+shift's most recent project took place at the Science Museum as part of the Frankenstein Festival, during the Easter holidays. This tour invited you to experience the Science Museum as you never have before. An interactive guided tour which dived in and out of the museum's audio landscape, uncovering hidden secrets in the museum's exhibitions.
This tour was appropriate for children age 8+ and was developed around the museum's existing exhibits and layout.

In November 2016, we established ourselves to produce a site-specific, immersive experience for the BasicSpace Festival in March 2017. Our production, CHRONOS, which opened the festival in SafeHouse 2, was designed for an individual audience member. Over the course of 30 minutes the participant navigated the house, exploring the space and uncovering the story within.
We were delighted to have the opportunity to revive CHRONOS in September 2017 with BasicSpace, as part of Peckham Festival
“People come in really knowing not much at all other than that they’re going to be by themselves…”
Rona Kelly (Thrifty Theatre Thinker) sat down with us ahead of BasicSpace 2017 to discuss our first production, CHRONOS
Writer & Director
Having explored immersive and participatory theatre throughout university, with a focus on film and documentary film, Nick went on to work with several London theatres on community projects and as technical support for larger productions. After a period of working in Thailand as a filmmaker for a children’s home, he returned to London and began working in post production for a film production company in Covent Garden.
Alongside producing for cmd+shift, Grace works as an administrator for a London based opera charity, which focuses on supporting young artists at the outset of their careers. She has experience in theatre and education, working with charities in Mumbai, India and in the UK. Grace has previously assisted in producing larger-scale productions for the Minack, Roundhouse & Sadler’s Wells theatres.
As a theatre practitioner based in the Humber region, Matthew specialises in community and youth based theatre practice; particularly supporting underprivileged young people to explore the arts’ potential in a person centred approach. So far with cmd+shift, he has assisted with the set design and planning stages throughout the development of Chronos, also contributing his voice acting skills to the final production.
